Setting up
How do I create a Tempo API token?
In Jira, open Tempo → Settings → API integration and create a new token. Punchbar needs two scopes: Worklogs (read and write) and Schemes (read, for your required hours). The setup assistant has a button that opens this page for you.
How do I create an Atlassian (Jira) API token?
Go to id.atlassian.com → Security → API tokens and create a token without scopes. Punchbar uses it to find issues, show their titles and look up the numeric issue ID that Tempo requires. Enter the email address you use to sign in to Atlassian.
Which Tempo region should I choose?
“Global” works for everyone. If your company requires a regional endpoint, choose Europe or Americas.
Does Punchbar work with Jira Data Center or Tempo Server?
No. Punchbar supports Jira Cloud with Tempo Timesheets (Cloud) only.
Using Punchbar
Why doesn’t the timer book anything when I start it?
Tempo has no timer of its own, so Punchbar runs the timer on your Mac and creates the worklog when you stop or switch. If Tempo can’t be reached, the worklog waits in a queue and is sent automatically later.
Where do the required hours come from?
From your Tempo schedule, including holidays, non-working days and part-time workload schemes.
Can I try Punchbar without an account?
Yes. Choose “Try Demo First” in the setup assistant or “Try Demo” in the panel. The demo uses sample data, nothing is saved and nothing is sent to Tempo.
Can I control Punchbar from Raycast, Shortcuts or Stream Deck?
Yes, with URL actions: punchbar://start?issue=KEY (optionally ¬e=Text), punchbar://stop and punchbar://toggle.
My token expired — what now?
Punchbar shows a hint in the panel as soon as Tempo or Jira rejects a token. Create a new one and paste it in Settings → Account. You can also store the token’s expiry date there to get a reminder beforehand.
Privacy
Punchbar connects directly from your Mac to Tempo and Jira. Tokens are stored in your Keychain, and we don’t collect any data. Details are in the privacy policy.
